The Elsey Wedding: Aiken Elegance

From Tacos to I Do

Ashley and Chad’s love story started with a shared love for good food, travel, and spontaneity. After years of making memories across the globe— from Paris to Budapest and even Elba Island—Chad proposed in classic, serendipitous fashion. What started as a planned Charleston proposal quickly shifted thanks to Hurricane Dorian, turning into a magical late-night moment on the steps of The Plaza Hotel in New York City. (With a jackhammer humming in the background for extra flair!)

A Personal, Polished Planning Experience

With the help of Alexandra Madison Weddings, a member of the South Carolina Bride Vendor Collective, Ashley’s vision came to life. rom custom Polaroid guest books and coffee-table sign-in stations to a wine box sealed for their first anniversary, every element of the day told a story.

One favorite? The travel-inspired centerpiece details, which honored their shared adventures with state and country outlines scattered throughout the reception.

A Ceremony Full of Emotion

Ashley and Chad exchanged vows at The Willcox in front of 165 guests, surrounded by lush florals from Margaret Kelly Weddings. A confetti-filled aisle exit added a celebratory flair early in the evening, replacing a traditional grand exit with something fun and unforgettable. And in a particularly touching moment, Ashley’s grandmother—her beloved “Memaw”—read The Lord’s Prayer during the ceremony.

Fashion Forward

Ashley’s stunning custom gown, designed by Angel Rivera through Hayden Olivia Bridal, was the definition of timeless. With satin fabric, a structured silhouette, and buttons down the back, the look was sophisticated, elegant, and uniquely hers. Chad wore a peak lapel Corneliani tux from Granger Owings, rounding out the couple’s chic black-tie style.

The bridesmaids wore mismatched gowns in shades of champagne, blush, and beige—each one hand-selected for personal flair and budget comfort. The end result? An effortless, neutral-toned palette that felt intentional and elevated.

Design That Speaks for Itself

Ashley’s design style could be described as classic meets sparkle. Soft neutrals, mixed metallics, textured linens (nine different kinds!), and vintage velvet lounge pieces created a luxurious, layered atmosphere. Stationery by HALOdesigns featured custom illustrations of Aiken’s South Boundary and The Willcox, tying together location and legacy.

The evening also included thoughtful culinary touches: a taco and margarita bar (a nod to their favorite spot, Cantina 76), crab dip from Chad’s grandmother’s recipe, and a late-night snack trio of truffle fries, sliders, and mini donuts.

Entertainment That Didn’t Miss a Beat

Live music from Flat Out Strangers set a vintage tone during cocktail hour, followed by a high-energy set from DJ Kevin Snow to keep the dance floor going. The night’s standout? A surprise father-daughter dance to a custom mashup of ’80s hits choreographed by Ashley and her dad. It was joyful, unexpected, and perfectly on theme.

A Cake Worth Celebrating

Ashley’s vision for her cake was all about balance—rich red velvet and lemony pound cake, decorated with gold veining and sugar florals. Created by Bonnie Brunt Cakes, the design combined luxe layers with practical touches (like a faux tier for safety), and the flavor? Incredible.

A Weekend of Meaningful Moments

From a pre-wedding polo match to a heartfelt letter-writing session on the morning of, Ashley and Chad’s weekend was filled with emotion, laughter, and love. “I never thought I would be in a situation surrounded by so much joy,” Ashley said. “There was a rhythm to the day—nothing felt too fast or frantic. Just… right.”

As the sun set on The Willcox, the newlyweds didn’t make a big exit—instead, they stayed late, laughed hard, and gathered friends for a final toast in the Roosevelt Suite.
Because that’s just who they are: stylish, sentimental, and never quite ready to say goodbye to a good party.
